The simple secret of success

Barack Obama, Tim Cook, Steve Jobs, Jack Dorsey, Oprah Winfrey, Martha Stewart and Anna Wintour – what do they have in common? Obviously, they are rich, successfull and accomplished. But that’s not what we mean. It’s another small detail that could very well be their secret for success. Let’s take a look at the ways that they start their workdays!

President Barack Obama wakes up at 6:45 and until 9:00 he exercises, reads the newspapers and has breakfast with his family. After that, he goes to the Oval Office, where he is briefed on various matters by his staff.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has an early start at 3:45 and is furthermore known to send out business emails at 4:30. By the time he enters his Cupertino office at 6:30 as one of the first employees, he has already exercised, had breakfast and read the news. His predecessor Steve Jobs had similar daily schedule.

Twitter-Co-Founder and CEO Jack Dorsey starts his day at 5:30 with a short meditation, followed by jogging and a breakfast conisisting of two hard boiled eggs. He uses the bus for his daily commute to the office, so he can witness first the ways that consumers interact with their smartphones first hand.

Lifestyle icons Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart wake up shortly after 5:00 and start working at the latest at 9:00. Every morning, they enjoy a routine of healthy food and drinks, exercises and reading the news.

Anna Wintour, Editor in Chief of the American Vogue starts every day at 5:45 playing tennis at her favourite health club. Her hairstylist visits every morning to keep her signature bob in top shape. After breakfast, her driver brings her to the Vogue offices, where she starts working at 9:00 sharp.

The common denominator for all of them is that they wake up very early and hold on to established rituals that help them feel calm, safe and secure even on the stressiest of days. They allow themselves the time it takes to start their days in a structured and informed manner and to mentally prepare for all the tasks that lay ahead of them. All the while, they neither neglect their health, nor their family and loved ones. The early bird catches the worm, after all!
